BladeRunners Program

BladeRunners is a FREE employment readiness program for people between the ages of 17 – 30 who are experiencing barriers to employment and would benefit from employment support and on-going mentorship.

The program started in 1994 in Vancouver during the construction of BC Place. Youth from the Downtown east side were hired as labourers to support the construction of the hockey arena. That is where the name "BladeRunners" comes from! The BladeRunners program consists of two weeks in the classroom followed by one week of assisted job search. You can choose from either construction or hospitality with training that includes:

  • Occupational First Aid level 1
  • WHMIS
  • Back and Ladder Safety
  • Employability skills workshops like "Create A Resume That Works!" and "Ace That Interview!"
  • Life skills workshops like "The Essence of Teamwork" and "How to Achieve Your Goals"
  • Basic Microsoft Word

Additional Construction training includes:

  • Forklift Training
  • Fall Protection
  • Knappett Site Tour
  • Measuring made Simple & Tool Belt Basics
  • Hand and Power Tools Basics

Additional Hospitality training includes:

The program provides job readiness and employability skills, assisted job search, ongoing support, and mentorship. In addition to a $200 completion bonus, breakfast and lunch is provided each day, along with bus tickets to get to and from training each day.

Once a job is secured you receive the appropriate safety gear and tools (if required). Program staff maintain contact with you to assist in dealing with issues that arise on and off of the worksite. Graduates of the program can qualify for further training to enhance their work skills.

Our next intakes include:  Hospitality - May 14th and Construction - June 11th. Ready to get started? Call us at 250-386-3428 to set up an interview! You can also visit BladeRunners Victoria on Facebook or come into the office and fill out an application in person.
