The John Howard Society of the Lower Mainland of BC (JHSLM) is a registered non-profit charitable organization which provides assistance with housing, life-skills, and community-based support, with the goal of assisting individuals to value their positive contributions to society. We are dedicated to providing support and assistance to individuals throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.
Our organization has a strong history of helping individuals who are involved in, or at risk of involvement in, the criminal justice system. Our goal is to contribute to public safety by offering services that lead people to be contributing citizens within their communities. We support clients in a number of areas, including providing and assisting with finding housing, assistance with community reintegration, support with mental health and addictions, and learning how to be accountable to others and to be responsible for themselves. We advocate for just and humane punishment for crime, and educate on the social, economic, and personal costs of crime.
We also offer residential, employment, and outreach support to adults with developmental disabilities referred to us by Community Living BC (CLBC). Our Community Living services support individuals that are eligible for either the developmental disability or personal support initiative streams of funding through CLBC. Supports and services may include providing assistance to those that face multiple barriers, and may be at risk of homelessness, involvement in the criminal justice system, mental health issues and/or addictions.
