John Howard Society of Okanagan & Kootenay Back to Provincial Site

A hearthstone is a stone that makes up part of a hearth or fireplace. In historic and modern usage, a hearth is a site used for core needs such as heating and cooking.  For centuries, the hearth was such an integral part of a home, usually its central and most important feature, that the concept of a hearth has been generalized to refer to a household or a homeplace.

Located in Kelowna, Hearthstone opened in 2018 and is a modular Supportive Housing project that supports individuals with diverse needs including homelessness, mental health concerns, and substance misuse.  It opened in Fall 2018, and is our first Housing First property and includes 48 suites for up to 58 residents providing for couple suites and accessible suites.
