Stop Taking it Out on your Partner

S.T.O.P. consists of ten units during which time participants meet with the program counselor weekly over 15 weeks. S.T.O.P. includes group, individual, and couples counselling as well as peer support. The program is designed to teach techniques that can be used to address violence in relationships and to promote personal growth.

S.T.O.P. Goals

* Identify abuse and abusive behaviours

* Understand emotions

* Learn how anger manifests its physically, emotionally, and behaviourally

* Learn how to avoid being overwhelmed by anger or other emotions

* Awareness of triggers before they result in violence

* Learn effective communication

* Self-esteem and positive thinking

* Learn the effects of abuse on partners and children

* Learn about empathy and understanding

* To be accountable and responsible for behaviours

* Understand toxic shame

* Relapse prevention

* Create positive “I” messages

* Encourage making positive choices

* Reminder that  violence is always a choice

 

 

Referrals: Any adult can be referred or self-refer to the program.  The program is increasingly being accessed by a growing number of referral sources across the province including RCMP, MCFD, Community Corrections, Correctional Services Canada, Interior Health, treatment centers, law offices and many others.
