REnEW (Residential Energy and Efficiency Works) is an innovative employment training program that specializes in energy efficiency. REnEW prepares individuals with barriers to employment for entry-level construction, building maintenance, or use as a basis for further education. REnEW’s approach maintains the Triple Bottom Line framework (social, environment, and economic). Socially, REnEW is directed to supporting those in our community experiencing barriers to employment. Additionally, construction sites are selected on their social purpose. Past projects have included recovery houses, shelters, and affordable housing. Environmentally, the program’s construction training teaches best-practice on sustainable and environmentally conscious construction. Lastly, by increasing the employability for those out-of-work or under-employed, REnEW helps financially by assisting people acquire work and a steady pay-cheque. Furthermore, REnEW contributes in creating a robust and skilled labour force for local businesses to hire.
