Youth education/Prevention Program re Drugs/Alcohol/Crime; screened volunteers who have experience in the jail system speak to youth.

Drop-in Services

Program Description:
Information & referral as well as informal counselling is available to ex-offenders and parolees who phone or drop in the office. Photo identification & resume organization/typing is available. Limited financial assistanceœ can be arranged.

Employment Counselling

Program Category: Community

Number of participants: 30 Per Month
Funding Source: Human Resources Development

Program Description:
This program is for soon to be released inmates from provincial jails. Contact will be continued for those living in Prince George upon release. Parolees, probationers and ex-offenders are also eligible for this program.

Family Violence Prevention Program

Program Category: Community

Number of participants: 8 to 15 per 15 week cycle

Program Description:
Prinœ George Stop Taking It Out on Your Partner is a voluntary program for abusive husbands. There are 2 sixteen week program cycles per year.

Job Coach

Client Age Group: Adult
Number of participants: 10 to 20 Per Month
Funding Source: Human Resources Skills Development Canada Program

Program Description:
This pilot program is designed to assist clients overcome exceptional barriers to employment (such as no housing, lack of motivation, etc.). The Job Coach will work with such clients until they are ready to look for work and then refer them to employment counsellors. Job Coach will also assist employers as to how to retain such clients.

Labour Market Partnership

Number of participants: 10 to 20 Per Month
Funding Source: Human Resources Skills Development Canada Program

Program Description:
The program does not involve participants, it involves putting a communication strategy together in regards to getting criminal justice clients into the labour force. It also involves developing a web site for employers to educate them on their rights and responsibilities pertaining to hiring employees with criminal records.

Prison Visiting

Program Category: Prison

Number of participants: 20 Per Month
Funding Source: United Way/Gaming

Program Description:
Staff regularly visit adult provincial jails offering pre-release planning, information re local resources, assistance with letters & paperwork, informal counselling & contact with families.
