To date the Literacy Activities of The John Howard Society of BC has been mainly in the area of research and pilot projects. The following are a list of the projects and reports available.

    A report on a professional development workshop for educators in correctional settings, 1994 (copies not available)
  • Where's The Hope? Learning & Employment Readiness
    A report on a professional development workshop for educators in correctional settings, 1995 (copies available)
  • Vancouver Pretrial Learning Program
    A pilot project at the Vancouver Pretrial Centre utilizing volunteer tutors, 1995 (copies not available)
  • Tutor Training Package For Working With Offenders in the Community
    A report will be available by April, 1996
  • A Book of Readings: Learning Through Critical Thinking
    A teaching tool for educators in correctional settings. A report will be available in June, 1996
  • Offender Literacy Projects That Work
    A professional development workshop for educators in correctional settings. A report will be available in September, 1996
  • The Justice Literacy Assessment & Awareness Project BC: The Justice Literacy Indicator (JLI) was developed by the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan. The BC Society held a series of workshops throughout the province to teach justice workers how to use the JLI and to discuss literacy issues. (1999-2001)
